New Zealand, a parliamentary state located in the Southwest Pacific 1,250 miles (2,011 km.) east of Australia, has an area of 103,883 sq. mi. (268,680 sq. km.) and a population of *3.4 million. Capital: Wellington. Wool, meat, dairy products and some  manufactured items are exported. Decimal Currency was introduced in 1967 with special sets commemorating the last issues of pound sterling (1965) and the  first of the decimal issues. Since then dollars and sets of coins have been issued nearly every year. New Zealand is a founding member of the Commonwealth of Nations. Elizabeth II is the Head of State as the Queen of New Zealand; the Prime Minister is the Head of Government.
